Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Briefings

The Southeast Branch of the Texas Chapter of APWA in collaboration with the Houston/Galveston Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) hosted a meeting for representatives of area cities and agencies to present information on their Capital Improvement Programs (CIPs).  Katherine A. Mears, P.E., Southeast Branch President hosted the meeting with the SAME Post President.  Greg R. Wine, P.E. LEED AP, Southeast Branch Trustee coordinated the meeting.  The meeting was held on March 10, 2010, and over 200 people were in attendance.  The following presenters spoke on their representative agency’s future projects and took questions from the audience.

·         Mr. Chris Steubing, P.E., City Engineer for the City of Sugar Land

·         Mr. Mark Gardemal, P.E., Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Pasadena

·         Mr. Trent Epperson, Projects Director from the City of Pearland

·         Mr. John Tyler, Assistant Director of Engineering Future Infrastructure from the Harris County Toll Road Authority

·         Mr. William Wachel, Project Management and GIS Manager from the Port of Houston Authority

·         Mr. Mike Marcotte, P.E., Director of Public Works and Engineering for the City of Houston

·         Col. Eric Potts, Deputy Director of the Houston Airport System

·         Ms. Valerie Ruda, Project Manager for the City of Missouri City

·         Mr. Charles Dean, P.E., Manager of Planning for the Harris County Public Infrastructure Department

·         Mr. Larry Badon, Manager of Long Range Planning from the Metropolitan Transit Authority

This meeting was a great success because of the opportunity for our members to discuss their future plans with local consultants, because of the exceptional attendance and the two societies working together to share costs and have a successful meeting.
