Debuts
New Flood Education Mapping Tool and Website
The
Harris County Flood Control District launched a new tool to help Harris County
residents gain knowledge about floodplains and their flooding risks – the
Flood Education Mapping Tool at
www.hcfcd.org.
The mapping tool replaces the mapping tool formerly found on the Tropical Storm
Allison Recovery Project (TSARP) website.
For more
than 10 years the mapping tool has been a valuable educational resource for
Harris County real estate, engineering and governmental communities as well as
residential and business property owners who have used it to learn the location
of structures relative to the mapped 1 percent (100-year), 0.2 percent
(500-year) and coastal floodplains.
Southeast Branch Gives $14,300 in
Scholarships
The Southeast Branch held their annual Scholarship
Luncheon on July 20, 2011 at the Houston Engineering and Scientific Society.
This was a joint meeting with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)
who also recognized their 16 scholarship winners. Mr. Dan Krueger, Director of
Public Works and Engineering for the City of Houston, spoke to the students
about how the nation’s treasure is its scholars.
The APWA scholarships honor Mr. D. Ray Jones,
retired Public Works Director from the City of Deer Park, and charter member of
the Southeast Branch. The Southeast Branch awarded the 2011 D. Ray Jones
Scholarships totaling $14,300 to ten deserving students. The scholarships
ranged from $1,000 to $2,200, and the winners were:
