The following is a
summary of the Field Awards (due January 15, 2010):
Field Excellence Award
Employees of a Texas Public Agency, working in
a non-management position, whose actions in the field had a significant
impact on services meeting the goals of public works in serving the public
and protecting the environment.
Equipment Operator of the Year
Employees of a Texas Public Agency, working in
a non-management position, whose ability to operate equipment is outstanding
and exceeds normal abilities.
Operations Excellence Award
Employees of a Texas Public Agency or an
organization working in a non-management position, who developed or upgraded
a program that had a significant impact on public services.
In-House Projects of the Year
Recognizing projects performed by Texas Public
Works personnel for the categories of:
The following is a
summary of the TPWA Awards (due May 1, 2010):
John Roark Young Leader Award
TPWA Members 35 years of age or younger that
have demonstrated commitment to the profession and the Texas Chapter of
APWA. Ideal candidates have demonstrated an ability and eagerness to act at
the Chapter or Branch level by serving on committees, as an officer, heading
projects, or contributing in general to the Texas Chapter or their Branch.
Submit a nomination form and a
paper/description of contributions the individual.
John Teipel Award for Environmental Excellence
Recognizes public sector employees who have
shown outstanding achievement in the environmental field such as street
sanitation, refuse collection, disposal and recycling, sewer and sewage
treatment, and/or water supply and water treatment.
Submit a nomination form and a
paper/description of an operation, design of a facility/program, etc.
Drahn Jones Award for Excellence in
Education
SAMPLE FROM LAST YEARS
WINNER
Individuals assisting in the areas of
continuing and/or graduate professional education for public work
professionals.
Along with the nomination form, prepare a
paper/description of contributions the individual.
Bill Hogge Award for Outstanding Chapter Achievement
and Excellence in Chapter Service
TPWA Members that have demonstrated commitment
to the profession and the Texas Chapter of APWA. Ideal candidates have been
involved in Chapter activity and have supported the Chapter’s strategic
plan, goals, and objectives. Both public and private sector members are
eligible.
Along with the nomination form, prepare a
paper /description of contributions the individual.
Richard Ridings Community Involvement Award

WINNER
Recognizes TPWA public works employees who are
leaders in their community by volunteering with charitable organizations or
community service groups. Along with the nomination form, prepare a
paper/description of contributions the individual.
Top Public Works Leaders of the Year
Recognizes excellence and dedication in public
service for career achievements by public or private sector professionals.
Candidates must have 10 years qualifying experience. Along with the
nomination form, prepare a paper/description of contributions the
individual.
Public
Works Project of the Year
These awards are structured to recognize
innovative public works projects that showed excellence in community
relations, may have included unusual accomplishments under adverse
conditions, and innovations in technology and/or management application.
Awards will be presented for multiple
categories including:
